Homeless in Newcastle
Shaid:
This is a documentary film concerning homelessness telling the touching story of a girl ending up on the street due to various unfortunate circumstances and her way back up with the help of Shaid which is an organisation dedicated to help people finding themselves in such a very unfortunate situation. My role in this production was mainly sound and music.
The style of this documentary is character based, and the story is told by the girl herself without to much interference of music or dramatic imagery and narrative structure. In other word a sort of 'straight to the case' style of documentary not trying to be too stylistic, capturing the audience purely with this one story keeping the elements raw and straight forward. This gives the documentary a sincere and 'honest' quality that breaks with most mainstream conventions of documentary making.
This documentary is now being used by Shaid as an infomercial video, and the responses received is almost merely positive. Students and teachers seemed to be moved by this story after a screening of the documentary on the university and it did also receive good marks.
